Even though service is one of the primary reasons businesses retain or lose customers, more than 97 percent never formally train their employees how to provide customer service well.

The Farmington Chamber of Commerce wants to change that percentage.

Customer service expert Bill Drury will present a seminar entitled, "A Passion for Service" (How To Win Customers and Reduce Lost Sales), March 8, at the Farmington Chamber of Commerce.

On Thurs., March 8, there will be two identical presentations, allowing employers to send half their employees in the morning, and half in the afternoon, and to fit a variety of schedules.

The seminars will be held at the Farmington Chamber of Commerce training room. The morning session is from 8:30-11:30 a.m., and the afternoon session is from 1-4 p.m.

"We've heard fantastic feedback about this program! Bill's lively presentations and video tapes instruct over 20,000 people each year!" said Doug McDermott, Farmington Chamber of Commerce president/CEO.

"Bill will cover so many topics, it will be beneficial for any size or type of business," McDermott said.

McDermott said Drury's topics include how to make a great first impression, create a vision for service; communicate respect to every customer; personalize service, how to handle the irate customer; overcome stress and burnout.

From 1985-1990, Drury was the National Training Consultant for the Zig Ziglar Corporation. He speaks, trains, and travels extensively, and has proven to be one of the most effective and entertaining speakers in the industry.

"One of the most exciting elements is the special section about how to handle the ten most difficult customers," McDermott said. "Everyone in business has had them, but it will be exciting to learn how to deal with them better."

Registration for the seminar is available at farmingtonmo.org. Volume and early registration discounts are available. Fees start at $79 per person.
