Mineral Area College’s student movie club, MACFlix, is once again offering six, free movies this summer and fall on the Park Hills campus quadrangle, near the waterfall area. The theme for this year is “hits from the late ‘70s and early ‘80s.”
MACFlix continues its 6th annual "Drive-In Nights" on Saturday, Aug. 26, 8 p.m., with a free, widescreen presentation of the 1978 college-comedy classic, “Animal House,” (rated R). Admission is free. Please bring lawn chairs and/or blankets to view film within the quadrangle. Some concessions will be available for purchase including soda, candy and chips. MACFlix presents all films in their original, large, widescreen format along with an outstanding sound system.
The movie, now 40 (and is old enough to know better) features the antics of Delta Tau Chi fraternity at Faber College. Delta is the bane of Dean Vernon Wormer’s existence. Its members don’t attend class; they are the source of endless pranks on campus and have broken every rule imaginable. As a group, they have a negligible GPA and their main reason for living is to party. When Wormer finally finds a way to expel them all, the men of Delta Tau Chi decide to go out in style, and give the college a homecoming parade they will never forget.
Dr. Kevin White, sponsor of MACFlix, said “Animal House” is one of the most profitable movies in all of cinema history; as it was filmed for only 2.8 million dollars and then went on to make 141 million.
“In 2001, the United States
Library of Congress deemed Animal House ‘culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant’ and selected it for preservation in the
National Film Registry,” he said. “It was also ranked #1 on
Bravo's ‘100 Funniest Movies of All Time.’”
Mark your calendars. Upcoming, Saturday-night, outdoor movies on MAC’s quad include:
Sept. 9, 7:45 p.m., Close Encounters of the Third Kind;
Sept. 23, 7:30 p.m., Witness;
Sept. 30, 7:30 p.m., Sudden Impact;
Oct. 7, 7:30 p.m., Raiders of the Lost Ark.
